Rationale

The project evolved following research for my research report. I stumbled upon the 3D printing topic and decided it would be interesting to research more in depth and include it in my studio practice. I have realised that filaments used for 3D printing are sustainable as they can be reused. Using technology in fashion design we can create more sustainable designs.

While we are responsible for the primary cause of damage to the planet, we can also fix it and find a solution. Fashion is far behind in sustainability comparing to other industries. By looking at different industries we can see how their solving an issue, for example solar panels. Modern architecture can inspire not only future proofed basis but also inspire intrigue, futuristic silhouettes.

In the past, I think my greatest success has come through using different techniques. Finding new techniques that I can use in my project, inspired me to create more abstract designs. In past projects I have really enjoyed working with laser cut. I feel that through adding patterns created using laser cut I complete my designs. I feel like fabrics like scuba or tulle really reflect my design aesthetic and I would love to work with them this year to create my collection. I also feel that they would well represent my theme of the project and would create a futuristic mood of the collection which I'm trying to achieve.

I am really excited to develop my skills and create a collection which will feature 3D printed elements. I find a process of creating an object in modelling software very intriguing, however, because I'm a beginner, I also find it very time consuming. I am a little concern that I will take to much time designing something in a software and fall back on other things in the project. To overcome this issue, during my free time I will practice my skills and create a strick plan to do not fall behind on any work.
